Yoga Therapy
The original body, mind,
spiritual approach to life.
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga, the original body, mind, spiritual
approach to life, reflects a 5000-year-old tradition designed to evoke
higher states of consciousness. Along the road to enlightenment yoga
practitioners discovered improved health and sense of well being. Out
of this evolved yoga therapy, the application of yoga towards health
and wellness. However, yoga therapy
is not a treatment for a condition. Instead it creates an educational
experience of yoga whereby the client's own innate healer is stimulated.
Yoga teaches us that dis-ease or illness, be it physical, mental or
emotional, begins at the most subtle level of the body and then moves
through layers or koshas until eventually the dis-ease manifests in our
lives as either illness, accident, or crisis. Yoga, used as a healing
tool, addresses all of the layers of the body, and seeks to create
balance and unity. When practiced diligently, yoga can create healing
energy and move into the roots of an issue, thereby creating
opportunities for deep healing.
However,
you don't need to be sick
to benefit from yoga therapy. Personal Yoga Therapy, because of
its holistic approach to wellness, has an amazing effect on healthy
bodies as well. Enhanced creativity, stronger focus, wider range of
emotional expression, balanced relationships, greater fulfillment at
work, living your purpose, and a true experience of 'connection to all'
are just some additional benefits that are possible.
Originally
the essence of yoga was transmitted from teacher to student in an
individualized setting. Group classes did not exist. Very little was
written down and the discipline was passed on through the oral
tradition and intuitive pathways. Personal Yoga Therapy seeks to
continue the traditional ratio of one teacher to one student with the
focus on personal development, transformation, and healing.
PERSONAL
YOGA THERAPY is a yoga program designed specifically for you and
your body. Its purpose is as unique as you are. Whether your intention
is for better health, recovery from stress, an expanded connection to
spirit, or support for transformation, Personal Yoga Therapy can help.
Inner
space explorations can sometimes stir up the unconscious and help us to
see places we don't often visit consciously. For this reason, it is
important that people who do this work are prepared, willing and
emotionally ready to do so. Self-study (svadhaya) and tapas or
discipline are required and commitment to yourself and your process is
important.
Sessions
can be scheduled one at a time, or in blocks of 3 or 6 sessions. Hours
are available weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
The
first session is usually 90-minutes long and includes creating an
intention for our work together. Subsequent sessions vary in length and
may include: guided imagery, body mapping, art, astrology, breathwork,
and other complimentary practices to support your personal journey. All
sessions include hatha yoga and meditation. It is mandatory that a
self-assessment form be completed before the first session if
applicable.
Personal
Yoga can be scheduled for one or two participants. Group programs are
also available. Yoga experience is not necessary and beginners are
always welcome.
Sessions can be held in the privacy of your home or at my office.
